About the Counselor

Barbara E. Kaplan, MHDL is a professional counselor who maintains a private practice under her corporation in the Myers Park neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina, providing individual, couple, partner, marriage and family counseling.  (This neighborhood is in close proximity to Dilworth, Eastover, Elizabeth, Chantilly, Cherry, Midtown, Starmount, Montclair, South Park, Cherry, Cotswold, Plaza Midwood, and Chantilly neighborhoods as well as Uptown Charlotte.)  Well over 6500 clients have received her professional services.  Although she has provided counseling to children, adolescents and adults, she currently limits her practice to adults, ages 18 years and older.


With 30+ years experience as an individual, couples, partners, marriage and family therapist, with a graduate degree in the field of counseling and in providing therapy in a variety of settings, she has experienced a broad spectrum of clients.  However, most people present at her office with depression, anxiety, sexual concerns, relationship problems, grief, job issues, trauma and/or addictions.  With certification as an AASECT Diplomate of Sex Therapy – Certified Sex Therapist, this counselor is skilled at the treatment of low sexual desire, difficulties with sexual arousal, erection problems (e.g., ED, premature ejaculation), excessive sexual behaviors such as in porn use, and provides counseling for sexual enrichment.  With a license in addictions, treatment is available for alcohol and drug problems, enabling, relapse prevention, codependency and for those who have achieved sobriety.


This counselor’s therapeutic approach is interactive and focused on solutions, changing unhealthy patterns of thinking and behavior, gaining insight/perspective on problems and issues, fostering skill-building, readily providing support and practical feedback to clients in their efforts to effectively address personal life challenges.  Her therapeutic approach considers a number of theories that creates greater flexibility in offering a personalized approach, tailored to each client.  She assists clients to work on building on their strengths and attaining the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.


Barbara E. Kaplan, MDHL has provided counseling services to adults of various faiths, religions, spiritual outlooks, gender identities, relationship status, cultures, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, and national origins.


In addition to counseling services, this counselor has presented workshops on communication and sexuality.
