About Barbara E. Kaplan, MHDL

Barbara E. Kaplan, MHDL has been providing counseling services for more than 32 years. Well over 6,500 clients - individuals, couples and families - have received her professional services over the years. Although she has provided counseling to children, adolescents and adults, she currently limits her practice to adults, ages 18 years and older.  Whether entering counseling to manage, alleviate or reduce severity of symptoms, work on issues or problems, address repeated unhealthy patterns of behavior/relationships, anger management, addictions, develop a greater ability to deal with emotional and other life challenges, conflict resolution, concerns about sexuality, to gain self-awareness and perspective on life circumstances, deal with coping difficulties or to enhance wellbeing or relationships, counseling is an opportunity for change.  It is a courageous step.

This counselor utilizes an eclectic approach, meaning that she does not apply a one-treatment model for all clients.  Instead, she considers different counseling theories, concepts and techniques to tailor treatment to the individual.  Theories used may include but not be limited to cognitive behavioral, family systems, gestalt, rational emotive behavioral, insight, reality, solution-focused.  She fosters empowering the individual by learning skills that may be used outside of the therapeutic session for current or future issues and problems.

The length of treatment is determined in mutual agreement with the client.  However, the client may terminate treatment whenever the client deems it appropriate.  There is no set number of sessions that the client must attend.

Barbara E. Kaplan, MHDL welcomes adults of all faiths, religions, spiritual outlooks, genders, gender identities, relationship statuses, immigration statuses, socioeconomic statuses, cultures, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, and national origins.
